I’m 56 years old, the youngest of 10 children. Growing up we didn’t realize how little we had, and at the age of 17 I joined the United States Army. I served in the Army for 3 years where I had an opportunity to travel to places, and see parts of the world I’d never dreamed I’d of; and after learning about how other people lived l returned home after 3 years of service. I got married at 25, and we had 3 children and I was destined to ensure my children had a better life, with more opportunities than I had. I became a hands on parent, and found my way into the schools volunteering as a mentor, I had been blessed with a job in corporate America and was able to purchase a home, and take care of my family with ease, but as I looked around me I noticed other families struggling so I decided to work with children in the neighborhood to teach them a good work ethic, responsibility, and respect for people’s property; I started a business called “Me and the boys lawn care”. Any kid wanting to work wasn’t turned away, I couldn’t pay them much, but I made sure no one was hungry before they went home. I’ve continued in mentoring youth to this day; I left corporate America in 2010 feeling led to start a youth center which I’m still trying to get started, but every opportunity I get to help young people think further than their current circumstances, I do. I’m not the type of person that normally puts myself first, but for some reason when I saw this, I felt compelled to share a portion of my story. I would love to win a 2018 Chevrolet Sonic, it would be put to good use to further my mission.
